Paralegal Certificate Program

Why not start a career in one of today's fastest growing professions?  Paralegals can also take continuing education classes in order to gain personal and professional development.  Start now by enrolling in the Paralegal Certificate Program with the Continuing Education and Public Service Division at Georgia Southern University!

Please visit our website for detailed information:

The United States Department of Labor has rated the paralegal professional as one of the fastest growing professions in the nation. Our Paralegal Certificate program adheres to the highest professional curriculum and prepares you to work in law offices, banks, government agencies, corporations and real estate firms.  The program consists of 13 courses.  The fee for each course is $290.00. You are responsible for the purchase of your books. You can choose to purchase new and/or used books from the University Bookstore or you can choose to purchase online from other vendors.  Each course meets for three hours one night per week for six weeks.  You arrange your own schedule.  You can take one to four courses per six week session.  Take two courses each session and graduate in twelve months.  Take four courses each session and graduate in six months.

*You must complete the courses within 3 years to obtain your Paralegal Certificate*

Each course is taught in a classroom setting allowing for interaction with the instructor and other students.  Students receive hands on research experience, tour the Bulloch County Court House, visit a courtroom, do a title search in Bulloch County, design and perform “good lawyer/bad lawyer” commercials, visit law firms in Bulloch and/or Chatham County, and enjoy enlightening and entertaining guest speakers.  Please note the above can change depending on the Instructor.

*Paralegal courses may be taken individually for continuing education as well as toward the Paralegal Certificate program*

Students must have a high school diploma or GED

to enter the program.  Good computer skills and Internet access are required. Paralegals work side by side with attorneys.  Paralegal duties include research, typing briefs, appeals, complaints, answers, interrogatories, letters, and other documents.  Paralegals need to be familiar with moving, using, and saving files in MS Word for routine legal office purposes.  An excellent command of English grammar, composition, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading skills are mandatory.  A professional appearance and conduct is expected.

The Continuing Education Department of Georgia Southern University is pleased to offer two courses for anyone interested in Project Management.

Both will be taught at the Coastal Georgia Center, conveniently located in downtown Savannah.

Beginning Project Management, a two-session course (March 4-5, 2011), covers the key skills and tools you'll need to be successful in the planning and completion of assigned projects.

Advanced Project Management, a four-session course, (March 25, April 1, 15, and 29, 2011) advances training with the internationally accepted standard of Project Management from The Project Management Institute.

Together, the 12-hour Beginning course and 24-hour Advanced Project Management course will complete the 35-hour course requirement for the PMI PMP certification application.
